| St. Louis City | URYS | Still Mostly Exists |
| These 1895 photos of the Forest Park Street Car Depot were contributed by James Wilson Thanks Jim. The following comments, Made in May 2007, are his. These photos are included in Andrew Young's " The St. Louis Streetcar Story " I'm dumbfounded. The depot shown as the Forest Park Terminal of URYS still exists! Its form is much altered, but the basic building remains. I was in it this evening. Use of the building for its original purpose -- a transfer point from the WAB and CRIP suburban trains to the trolley -- ended when the URYS tracks were moved for the World's Fair of 1904. The pavilion, as it became known, was used for some purpose during the run of the Fair, and then, as Forest Park was developed, was remodeled to serve as the Clubhouse and pro shop for the Forest Park golf course. In the process it lost one of its two original towers and the open arches were filled in with glass. During the recent renovation of Forest Park, a new golf clubhouse was built (in a spot more convenient for the golfers), and the pavilion was remodeled again, to serve as a visitors' center, etc. It includes a space that is used for functions such as the wedding reception where I was this evening. It is now known as the Lindell Pavilion, "Lindell" after the name of the trolley line that built it in the first place. (The Lindell Line was one of those absorbed into URYS.) I had thought that the building stood at the corner of Lindell and Kings highway Blvds. Not so. It's further west, near DeBalivere and south of Lindell by 100 ft. or so. It wasn't exactly handy to either the CRIP "Forsyth Jct." or WAB "DeBalivere" stations -- about a 150-yd walk from either. But apparently it was near enough that people used it. |
