Considerable thought has been given on how to classify these depots by railroad. It was decided that each depot would be listed under the railroad that it would be most associated with by a person with a thorough knowledge of Missouri railroad history. This is, generally, the RR that built the structure or used it for the longest period of its existence. Therefore you won't find any BNSF, NS or UP depots here. Those railroads and others will show up in parentheses as the current operator/successor of the Missouri railroads listed below. Bill Bunch has been primarily responsible for this classification. Questions, clarifications and differences of opinions may be addressed to Bill or me.

The following comments were provided by William Bunch.
Around 1902 the Illinois Southern built the line from Ste. Genevieve to Bismarck. Around 1921, the MP bought this line at bankruptcy sale and reorganized it as the Missouri-Illinois as the line actually extended on East to Salem Illinois with ferry service across the Mississippi at Ste. Genevieve.
In 1929, the MP also bought controlling interest in the MR & BT Ry and folded it into the Missouri-Illinois. In the early years, before the MI RR existed, these two lines crossed at a point between Elvins and Derby. There the IS RR also crossed MR & BT spur lines at Crawley and Central. Both Railroads had depots at Flat River and Elvins. With the merger of the MR & BT into the MI RR, these two IS depots were no longer needed and torn down shortly afterward.

| Stay tuned. We've changed the definition of "MISC". Check the new "Interurban RRs" and "Missouri Short Lines" lists for the depots that used to hide in here. I have some more unique photos I plan to put in here and the other two soon |

I received the following information from James McNary in May 2007
The "old M&NA" was properly the "Missouri & North Arkansas Railway", a stub still exists as the "Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway". The "new M&NA" is the Missouri & Northern Arkansas. I think the distinction was made because of leftovers from the old M&NA, like plat map property references and possibly concerns of taking over the name of a failed entity with unsettled issues
Thanks James.
