| This photo, taken in the 1900's, of the Wappapello Depot, was donated by Timothy Cannon. Thanks Tim. The following comments are his. All I know on this one is the line was gone before 1940. The Corp of Engineers built a huge lake (Lake Wappapello) by damming the St. Francois River. This particular line went from Mingo Jct. to Williamsville and then on to Chicopee and west. A lot of the line, which I don't think was seeing any traffic, was flooded and is at the bottom of the lake as is some of the small towns such as Chaonia (that would be a great rare depot photo to have!) The line from Mingo all the way to Chicopee was abandoned. |
